This exceptional circular papier mache and black lacquer box was produced circa 1810 by P. Korobov, the founder of the renowned Lukutin Factory and holder of the Imperial Warrant. The lid features a finely executed hand-painted portrait of Count F. Stregalov (1728–1805), depicted with scholarly attributes and a prominent breast star of a Russian order. Both the interior lid and base are finished in high-gloss black lacquer and bear the red inventory signature "Z26". The piece is accompanied by original documentation from the prestigious New York gallery A La Vieille Russie.
