This fine antique Russian Imperial silver tankard, crafted in Moscow in 1869, is designed in the trompe l'oeil style to simulate a woven bast or birchbark vessel. The cylindrical body and hinged lid are entirely covered in a finely engraved "basket weave" texture, interrupted only by polished geometric bands and a central shield-shaped cartouche engraved with a stylized monogram. It features a scrolled handle with a thumbpiece and a turned finial atop the domed cover. The interior retains its rich original vermeil (gold wash) finish. The underside and lid are fully hallmarked with the 84 zolotnik standard, the Moscow city mark (St. George), the assayer's mark "А.С" (likely A. Svechin, active 1862–1875), and the maker's mark "А.Ш" (attributed to Aleksandr Shemyakin). 84 zolotnik, vermeil, trompe l'oeil, bast style, pan-slavic, Aleksandr Shemyakin, Moscow silver, vodka cup, historicism, imperial russia, A. Svechin, silver gilt. Weight 318 g.
