Sofia Pressman (Russian, 1904–2001). Hand-painted faience plate executed for the Konakovo Faience Manufacture. Dated ca. 1930s. Titled "Peasant Woman by the Stream". Stamped with numbers on the backside. Sofia Pressman was a Russian ceramic artist. In 1930 she graduated from the Vkhutein and started working at the Konakovo factory. Pressman developed themes relevant to the time of early Soviet state building. Utilitarian tableware intended for mass replication was created by the young ceramicist in the spirit of constructivism which was fashionable at that time. Konakovo Faience Manufacture is one of the oldest porcelain and faience producers in Russia founded in 1809 in Tver region.
