An antique Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Mother of God with the Christ Child, dating to the second half of the 19th century. Executed in traditional mixed media egg tempera on a gesso and levkas ground on a wooden panel with a gilt background. The composition shows the Mother of God with her hand raised toward her head, while the Christ Child sits upon her hand, holding a scroll in both hands. The icon bears a Church Slavonic inscription in the upper register. A fine example of 19th century Russian devotional art, combining detailed iconography with a richly gilded background.
