An antique Russian Orthodox hand painted icon depicting Saint Nicholas of Myra, dating to the 17th century. The Saint is shown frontally in a traditional half length representation, wearing episcopal vestments, blessing with his right hand and holding the Holy Gospel in his left. Executed in mixed media using egg tempera on a gesso and levkas ground, the icon is painted on a wooden panel with a double recessed kovcheg. Probably inscribed on the backside. A fine and early example of Russian Orthodox devotional art, representative of the enduring veneration of Saint Nicholas in Russian religious tradition. Icon Paintings, Religious Items, Christian Art, Collectibles.
