An antique Russian Orthodox icon titled Do Not Weep for Me, Mother, dating to the early 19th century. Executed in traditional mixed media egg tempera on a gesso and levkas ground on a wooden panel with a recessed kovcheg. This solemn iconographic composition depicts Christ in the tomb, His partially exposed body emerging from the sarcophagus, head bowed, eyes closed, and hands crossed upon His chest. A cross, often accompanied by the Instruments of the Passion, rises behind Him. The mourning Mother of God is traditionally shown to the left, expressing quiet grief and theological reflection on Christs sacrifice. A poignant example of Russian devotional art and antique Orthodox iconography. Icon Paintings, Religious Items, Christian Art, Collectibles.
